<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id8311e61d-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a"><num value="705a">§ 705a.</num><heading> Rest and recuperation absence: certain members undergoing extended deployment to a combat zone</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id8311e61e-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Rest and Recuperation Authorized</inline>.—</heading><content>Under regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary concerned may provide a member of the armed forces described in subsection (b) the benefits described in subsection (c).</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id8311e61f-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Covered Members</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>A member of the armed forces described in this subsection is any member who—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8311e620-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> is assigned or deployed for at least 270 days in an area or location—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id8311e621-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/b/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> that is designated by the President as a combat zone; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id8311e622-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/b/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> in which hardship duty pay is authorized to be paid under <ref href="/us/usc/t37/s305">section 305 of title 37</ref>; and</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8311e623-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> meets such other criteria as the Secretary of Defense may prescribe in the regulations required by subsection (a).</content>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id8311e624-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Benefits</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>The benefits described in this subsection are the following:</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8311e625-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/c/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> A period of rest and recuperation absence for not more than 15 days.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8311e626-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/c/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> Round-trip transportation at Government expense from the area or location in which the member is serving in connection with the exercise of the period of rest and recuperation.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id8311e627-ec38-11e5-a7c9-8f2c075e98f6" identifier="/us/usc/t10/s705a/d"><num value="d">(d)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Construction With Other Leave</inline>.—</heading><content>Any benefits provided a member under this section are in addition to any other leave or absence to which the member may be entitled.</content>
