(See <ref href=\"/us/usc/t18/s5\">section 5 of this title</ref> defining “United States”.)</p>\n<p style=\"-uslm-lc:I21\" class=\"indent0\">The punishment provisions were derived from <ref href=\"/us/usc/t18/s446\">section 446 of title 18</ref>, U.S.C., 1940 ed., as more consistent with other sections of this chapter.</p>\n<p style=\"-uslm-lc:I21\" class=\"indent0\">The requirement of <ref href=\"/us/usc/t18/s423\">section 423 of title 18</ref>, U.S.C., 1940 ed., for payment of one-half the fine “for the use of the person prosecuting the indictment to effect” was omitted as meaningless.
