<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="idd3981b93-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597"><num value="1597">§ 1597.</num><heading> Unlawful conduct with respect to immigration documents</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idd3981b94-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Destruction, Concealment, Removal, Confiscation, or Possession of Immigration Documents</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly destroy, conceal, remove, confiscate, or possess, an actual or purported passport or other immigration document of another individual—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idd3981b95-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> in the course of violating <ref href="/us/usc/t18/s1351">section 1351 of this title</ref> or section 274 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<ref href="/us/usc/t8/s1324">8 U.S.C. 1324</ref>);</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idd3981b96-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> with intent to violate <ref href="/us/usc/t18/s1351">section 1351 of this title</ref> or section 274 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<ref href="/us/usc/t8/s1324">8 U.S.C. 1324</ref>); or</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idd3981b97-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> in order to, without lawful authority, maintain, prevent, or restrict the labor of services of the individual.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idd3981b98-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Penalty</inline>.—</heading><content>Any person who violates subsection (a) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned for not more than 1 year, or both.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idd3981b99-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s1597/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Obstruction</inline>.—</heading><content>Any person who knowingly obstructs, attempts to obstruct, or in any way interferes with or prevents the enforcement of this section, shall be subject to the penalties described in subsection (b).</content>
