L. 103–322, title XXXII, § 320910(a), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2127.)","seq_in_title":20,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI/ch1","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18","level":"title","num":"Title 18—","heading":"CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI","level":"part","num":"PART I—","heading":"CRIMES","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI/ch1","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 1—","heading":"GENERAL PROVISIONS","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"idd32869ba-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s21\"><num value=\"21\">§ 21.</num><heading> Stolen or counterfeit nature of property for certain crimes defined</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"idd32869bb-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s21/a\"><num value=\"a\">(a)</num><chapeau> Wherever in this title it is an element of an offense that—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd32869bc-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s21/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> any property was embezzled, robbed, stolen, converted, taken, altered, counterfeited, falsely made, forged, or obliterated; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd32869bd-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s21/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> the defendant knew that the property was of such character;</content>\n</paragraph>\n\n<continuation style=\"-uslm-lc:I10\" class=\"indent0 firstIndent0\">such element may be established by proof that the defendant, after or as a result of an official representation as to the nature of the property, believed the property to be embezzled, robbed, stolen, converted, taken, altered, counterfeited, falsely made, forged, or obliterated.</continuation>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"idd32869be-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s21/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><content> For purposes of this section, the term “official representation” means any representation made by a Federal law enforcement officer (as defined in section 115) or by another person at the direction or with the approval of such an officer.</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"idd32869bf-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\">(Added <ref href=\"/us/pl/103/322/tXXXII/s320910/a\">Pub.
