<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id751b83dd-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426"><num value="2426">§ 2426.</num><heading> Repeat offenders</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id751b83de-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Maximum Term of Imprisonment</inline>.—</heading><content>The maximum term of imprisonment for a violation of this chapter after a prior sex offense conviction shall be 3 times the term of imprisonment otherwise provided by this chapter, unless section 3559(e) applies.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id751b83df-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Definitions</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>In this section—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id751b83e0-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> the term “prior sex offense conviction” means a conviction for an offense—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id751b83e1-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426/b/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> under this chapter, chapter 109A, chapter 110, or section 1591; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id751b83e2-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426/b/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> under State law for an offense consisting of conduct that would have been an offense under a chapter referred to in subparagraph (A) if the conduct had occurred within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id751b83e3-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2426/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> the term “State” means a State of the United States, the District of Columbia, and any commonwealth, territory, or possession of the United States.</content>
