L. 108–21, title VI, § 601[(a)], Apr. 30, 2003, 117 Stat. 686.)","seq_in_title":23,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI/ch1","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18","level":"title","num":"Title 18—","heading":"CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI","level":"part","num":"PART I—","heading":"CRIMES","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI/ch1","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 1—","heading":"GENERAL PROVISIONS","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"idd328b7eb-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25\"><num value=\"25\">§ 25.</num><heading> Use of minors in crimes of violence</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"idd328b7ec-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/a\"><num value=\"a\">(a)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Definitions</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>In this section, the following definitions shall apply:</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd328b7ed-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Crime of violence</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “crime of violence” has the meaning set forth in section 16.</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd328b7ee-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Minor</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “minor” means a person who has not reached 18 years of age.</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd328b7ef-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Uses</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “uses” means employs, hires, persuades, induces, entices, or coerces.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"idd328b7f0-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Penalties</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>Any person who is 18 years of age or older, who intentionally uses a minor to commit a crime of violence for which such person may be prosecuted in a court of the United States, or to assist in avoiding detection or apprehension for such an offense, shall—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd328df01-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> for the first conviction, be subject to twice the maximum term of imprisonment and twice the maximum fine that would otherwise be authorized for the offense; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idd328df02-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s25/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> for each subsequent conviction, be subject to 3 times the maximum term of imprisonment and 3 times the maximum fine that would otherwise be authorized for the offense.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"idd328df03-b211-11e9-bc44-d051d0f40dfd\">(Added <ref href=\"/us/pl/108/21/tVI/s601\">Pub.
