<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id7529db31-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711"><num value="2711">§ 2711.</num><heading> Definitions for chapter</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">As used in this chapter—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7529db32-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> the terms defined in <ref href="/us/usc/t18/s2510">section 2510 of this title</ref> have, respectively, the definitions given such terms in that section;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7529db33-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> the term “remote computing service” means the provision to the public of computer storage or processing services by means of an electronic communications system;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7529db34-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><chapeau> the term “court of competent jurisdiction” includes—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7529db35-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><chapeau> any district court of the United States (including a magistrate judge of such a court) or any United States court of appeals that—</chapeau><clause style="-uslm-lc:I14" class="indent3" id="id7529db36-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3/A/i"><num value="i">(i)</num><content> has jurisdiction over the offense being investigated;</content>
</clause>
<clause style="-uslm-lc:I14" class="indent3" id="id7529db37-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3/A/ii"><num value="ii">(ii)</num><content> is in or for a district in which the provider of a wire or electronic communication service is located or in which the wire or electronic communications, records, or other information are stored; or</content>
</clause>
<clause style="-uslm-lc:I14" class="indent3" id="id7529db38-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3/A/iii"><num value="iii">(iii)</num><content> is acting on a request for foreign assistance pursuant to <ref href="/us/usc/t18/s3512">section 3512 of this title</ref>;</content>
</clause>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7529db39-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> a court of general criminal jurisdiction of a State authorized by the law of that State to issue search warrants; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7529db3a-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/3/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> a court-martial or other proceeding under chapter 47 of title 10 (the Uniform Code of Military Justice) to which a military judge has been detailed; and</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7529db3b-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s2711/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> the term “governmental entity” means a department or agency of the United States or any State or political subdivision thereof.</content>
