<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id7468aeab-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513"><num value="513">§ 513.</num><heading> Securities of the States and private entities</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id7468aeac-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><content> Whoever makes, utters or possesses a counterfeited security of a State or a political subdivision thereof or of an organization, or whoever makes, utters or possesses a forged security of a State or political subdivision thereof or of an organization, with intent to deceive another person, organization, or government shall be fined under this title <ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002047">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002047"><num>1</num> See 1994 Amendment note below.</note> or imprisoned for not more than ten years, or both.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id7468aead-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><content> Whoever makes, receives, possesses, sells or otherwise transfers an implement designed for or particularly suited for making a counterfeit or forged security with the intent that it be so used shall be punished by a fine under this title or by imprisonment for not more than ten years, or both.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id7468aeae-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><chapeau> For purposes of this section—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7468aeaf-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> the term “counterfeited” means a document that purports to be genuine but is not, because it has been falsely made or manufactured in its entirety;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7468aeb0-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> the term “forged” means a document that purports to be genuine but is not because it has been falsely altered, com­pleted, signed, or endorsed, or contains a false addition thereto or insertion therein, or is a combination of parts of two or more genuine documents;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7468aeb1-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><chapeau> the term “security” means—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7468aeb2-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/3/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> a note, stock certificate, treasury stock certificate, bond, treasury bond, debenture, certificate of deposit, interest coupon, bill, check, draft, warrant, debit instrument as defined in section 916(c) <ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002048">2</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002048"><num>2</num> See References in Text note below.</note> of the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, money order, traveler’s check, letter of credit, warehouse receipt, negotiable bill of lading, evidence of indebtedness, certificate of interest in or participation in any profit-sharing agreement, collateral-trust certificate, pre-reorganization certificate of subscription, transferable share, investment contract, voting trust certificate, or certificate of interest in tangible or intangible property;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7468aeb3-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/3/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> an instrument evidencing ownership of goods, wares, or merchandise;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7468aeb4-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/3/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> any other written instrument commonly known as a security;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7468aeb5-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/3/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> a certificate of interest in, certificate of participation in, certificate for, receipt for, or warrant or option or other right to subscribe to or purchase, any of the foregoing; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id7468aeb6-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/3/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> a blank form of any of the foregoing;</content>
</subparagraph>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7468aeb7-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> the term “organization” means a legal entity, other than a government, established or organized for any purpose, and includes a corporation, company, association, firm, partnership, joint stock company, foundation, institution, society, union, or any other association of persons which operates in or the activities of which affect interstate or foreign commerce; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7468aeb8-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf" identifier="/us/usc/t18/s513/c/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> the term “State” includes a State of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, and any other territory or possession of the United States.</content>
