L. 104–294, title VI, § 601(a)(2), Oct. 11, 1996, 110 Stat. 3498.)","seq_in_title":383,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI/ch45","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18","level":"title","num":"Title 18—","heading":"CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI","level":"part","num":"PART I—","heading":"CRIMES","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t18/ptI/ch45","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 45—","heading":"FOREIGN RELATIONS","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id7495ff91-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970\"><num value=\"970\">§ 970.</num><heading> Protection of property occupied by foreign governments</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id7495ff92-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/a\"><num value=\"a\">(a)</num><content> Whoever willfully injures, damages, or destroys, or attempts to injure, damage, or destroy, any property, real or personal, located within the United States and belonging to or utilized or occupied by any foreign government or international organization, by a foreign official or official guest, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id7495ff93-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><chapeau> Whoever, willfully with intent to intimidate, coerce, threaten, or harass—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id7495ff94-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><chapeau> forcibly thrusts any part of himself or any object within or upon that portion of any building or premises located within the United States, which portion is used or occupied for official business or for diplomatic, consular, or residential purposes by—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff95-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/1/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> a foreign government, including such use as a mission to an international organization;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff96-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/1/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> an international organization;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff97-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/1/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><content> a foreign official; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff98-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/1/D\"><num value=\"D\">(D)</num><content> an official guest; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id7495ff99-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><chapeau> refuses to depart from such portion of such building or premises after a request—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff9a-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> by an employee of a foreign government or of an international organization, if such employee is authorized to make such request by the senior official of the unit of such government or organization which occupies such portion of such building or premises;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff9b-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> by a foreign official or any member of the foreign official’s staff who is authorized by the foreign official to make such request;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff9c-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/2/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><content> by an official guest or any member of the official guest’s staff who is authorized by the official guest to make such request; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id7495ff9d-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/b/2/D\"><num value=\"D\">(D)</num><content> by any person present having law enforcement powers;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n\n<continuation style=\"-uslm-lc:I10\" class=\"indent0 firstIndent0\">shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.</continuation>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id7495ff9e-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t18/s970/c\"><num value=\"c\">(c)</num><content> For the purpose of this section “foreign government”, “foreign official”, “international organization”, and “official guest” shall have the same meanings as those provided in <ref href=\"/us/usc/t18/s1116/b\">section 1116(b) of this title</ref>.</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id7495ff9f-3b28-11eb-ad8c-9fba61cd9daf\">(Added <ref href=\"/us/pl/92/539/tIV/s401\">Pub.
