<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id3313abb6-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1606"><num value="1606">§ 1606.</num><heading> Penalties</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id3313abb7-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1606/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Civil penalty</heading><chapeau>Whoever knowingly fails to—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3313abb8-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1606/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> remedy a defective filing within 60 days after notice of such a defect by the Secretary of the Senate or the Clerk of the House of Representatives; or</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3313abb9-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1606/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> comply with any other provision of this chapter;</content>
</paragraph>

<continuation style="-uslm-lc:I10" class="indent0 firstIndent0">shall, upon proof of such knowing violation by a preponderance of the evidence, be subject to a civil fine of not more than $200,000, depending on the extent and gravity of the violation.</continuation>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id3313abba-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1606/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Criminal penalty</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Whoever knowingly and corruptly fails to comply with any provision of this chapter shall be imprisoned for not more than 5 years or fined under title 18, or both.</p>
