<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id3313abd1-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609"><num value="1609">§ 1609.</num><heading> Identification of clients and covered officials</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id3313abd2-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Oral lobbying contacts</heading><chapeau>Any person or entity that makes an oral lobbying contact with a covered legislative branch official or a covered executive branch official shall, on the request of the official at the time of the lobbying contact—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3313abd3-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> state whether the person or entity is registered under this chapter and identify the client on whose behalf the lobbying contact is made; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3313abd4-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> state whether such client is a foreign entity and identify any foreign entity required to be disclosed under <ref href="/us/usc/t2/s1603/b/4">section 1603(b)(4) of this title</ref> that has a direct interest in the outcome of the lobbying activity.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id3313abd5-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Written lobbying contacts</heading><chapeau>Any person or entity registered under this chapter that makes a written lobbying contact (including an electronic communication) with a covered legislative branch official or a covered executive branch official shall—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3313abd6-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> if the client on whose behalf the lobbying contact was made is a foreign entity, identify such client, state that the client is considered a foreign entity under this chapter, and state whether the person making the lobbying contact is registered on behalf of that client under <ref href="/us/usc/t2/s1603">section 1603 of this title</ref>; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id3313abd7-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> identify any other foreign entity identified pursuant to <ref href="/us/usc/t2/s1603/b/4">section 1603(b)(4) of this title</ref> that has a direct interest in the outcome of the lobbying activity.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id3313abd8-c209-11e6-a672-9c11a185633e" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s1609/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Identification as covered official</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Upon request by a person or entity making a lobbying contact, the individual who is contacted or the office employing that individual shall indicate whether or not the individual is a covered legislative branch official or a covered executive branch official.</p>
