<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id5d318c5b-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610"><num value="610">§ 610.</num><heading> Repayment of student loan on behalf of employee</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id5d318c5c-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Authorization</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Director of the Congressional Budget Office may, in order to recruit or retain qualified personnel, establish and maintain on and after <date date="2001-11-12">November 12, 2001</date>, a program under which the Office may agree to repay (by direct payments on behalf of the employee) all or a portion of any student loan previously taken out by such employee.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id5d318c5d-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Regulations</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Director may, by regulation, make applicable such provisions of <ref href="/us/usc/t5/s5379">section 5379 of title 5</ref> as the Director determines necessary to provide for such program.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id5d318c5e-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Maximum amount</heading><chapeau>The regulations shall provide the amount paid by the Office may not exceed—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id5d318c5f-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/c/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> $6,000 for any employee in any calendar year; or</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id5d318c60-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/c/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> a total of $40,000 in the case of any employee.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id5d318c61-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/d"><num value="d" class="bold">(d)</num><heading class="bold"> Limitation</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Office may not reimburse an employee for any repayments made by such employee prior to the Office entering into an agreement under this section with such employee.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id5d318c62-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/e"><num value="e" class="bold">(e)</num><heading class="bold"> Accounting</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Any amount repaid by, or recovered from, an individual under this section and its implementing regulations shall be credited to the appropriation account available for salaries and expenses of the Office at the time of repayment or recovery.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id5d318c63-ec38-11e5-89e9-afe61b29b17d" identifier="/us/usc/t2/s610/f"><num value="f" class="bold">(f)</num><heading class="bold"> Applicability</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">This section shall apply to fiscal year 2002 and each fiscal year thereafter.</p>
