L. 109–55, title I, § 6, Aug. 2, 2005, 119 Stat. 568.)","seq_in_title":274,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t2/ch4","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t2","level":"title","num":"Title 2—","heading":"THE CONGRESS","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t2/ch4","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 4—","heading":"OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id182566bb-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d\"><num value=\"72d\">§ 72d.</num><heading> Discretionary authority of Senate Committee on Appropriations</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id182566bc-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> In general</heading><chapeau>The Committee on Appropriations is authorized in its discretion—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id182566bd-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> to hold hearings, report such hearings, and make investigations as authorized by paragraph 1 of rule XXVI of the Standing Rules of the Senate;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id182566be-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> to make expenditures from the contingent fund of the Senate;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id182566bf-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> to employ personnel;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id182566c0-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> with the prior consent of the Government department or agency concerned and the Committee on Rules and Administration to use, on a reimbursable or nonreimbursable basis, the services of personnel of any such department or agency;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id182566c1-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a/5\"><num value=\"5\">(5)</num><content> to procure the services of individual consultants, or organizations thereof (as authorized by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t2/s72a/i\">section 72a(i) of this title</ref> and Senate Resolution 140, agreed to <date date=\"1975-05-14\">May 14, 1975</date>, except that any approval (and related reporting requirement) shall not apply); and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id182566c2-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/a/6\"><num value=\"6\">(6)</num><content> to provide for the training of the professional staff of such committee (under procedures specified by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t2/s72a/j\">section 72a(j) of this title</ref>).</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id182566c3-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Omitted</heading><content/>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id182566c4-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t2/s72d/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Effective date</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">This section shall be effective on and after <date date=\"1998-10-01\">October 1, 1998</date>, or the date of enactment of this Act [<date date=\"1998-10-21\">October 21, 1998</date>], whichever is later.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id182566c5-425e-11e3-8d4d-f11243cf9240\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/105/275/s10\">Pub.
