L. 100–297, title III, § 3501(a), Apr. 28, 1988, 102 Stat. 354.)","seq_in_title":882,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch31/schIV","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20","level":"title","num":"Title 20—","heading":"EDUCATION","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch31","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 31—","heading":"GENERAL PROVISIONS CONCERNING EDUCATION","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch31/schIV","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER IV—","heading":"ENFORCEMENT","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id6c60eab8-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c\"><num value=\"1234c\">§ 1234c.</num><heading> Remedies for existing violations</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id6c60eab9-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c/a\"><num value=\"a\">(a)</num><chapeau> Whenever the Secretary has reason to believe that any recipient of funds under any applicable program is failing to comply substantially with any requirement of law applicable to such funds, the Secretary may—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c60eaba-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> withhold further payments under that program, as authorized by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234d\">section 1234d of this title</ref>;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c60eabb-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> issue a complaint to compel compliance through a cease and desist order of the Office, as authorized by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234e\">section 1234e of this title</ref>;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c60eabc-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> enter into a compliance agreement with a recipient to bring it into compliance, as authorized by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234f\">section 1234f of this title</ref>; or</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c60eabd-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c/a/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> take any other action authorized by law with respect to the recipient.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id6c60eabe-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234c/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><content> Any action, or failure to take action, by the Secretary under this section shall not preclude the Secretary from seeking a recovery of funds under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s1234a\">section 1234a of this title</ref>.</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id6c60eabf-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/90/247/tIV/s454\">Pub.
