establishment of necessary facilities</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Secretary is authorized—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id82ce49fd-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><chapeau> to acquire (by purchase, lease, condemnation, or otherwise), construct, improve, repair, operate, and maintain—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id82ce49fe-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/1/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> schools and related facilities (but only to the extent that operation of schools and related facilities by the Department is authorized by this chapter);</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id82ce49ff-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/1/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> laboratories;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id82ce4a00-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/1/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><content> research and testing sites and facilities;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id82ce4a01-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/1/D\"><num value=\"D\">(D)</num><content> quarters and related accommodations for employees and dependents of employees of the Department; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id82ce4a02-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/1/E\"><num value=\"E\">(E)</num><content> personal property (including patents), or any interest therein,</content>\n</subparagraph>\n\n<continuation style=\"-uslm-lc:I17\" class=\"indent1 firstIndent0\">as may be necessary; and</continuation>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id82ce4a03-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> to provide by contract or otherwise for the establishment of eating facilities and other necessary facilities for the health and welfare of employees of the Department at its installations, and purchase and maintain equipment therefor.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id82ce4a04-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Day care center facilities</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The authority available to the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s2564\">section 2564 of this title</ref>, shall also be available to the Secretary.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id82ce4a05-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3477/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Special purpose facilities</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The authority granted by subsection (a) of this section shall be available only with respect to facilities of a special purpose nature that cannot readily be reassigned from similar Federal activities and are not otherwise available for assignment to the Department by the Administrator of General Services.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id82ce4a06-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/96/88/tIV/s417\">Pub.
