L. 99–159, title II, § 201, Nov. 22, 1985, 99 Stat. 893.)","seq_in_title":1240,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch52/schI","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20","level":"title","num":"Title 20—","heading":"EDUCATION","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch52","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 52—","heading":"EDUCATION FOR ECONOMIC SECURITY","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch52/schI","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER I—","heading":"NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EDUCATION","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id6c991129-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911\"><num value=\"3911\">§ 3911.</num><heading> Congressional declaration of policy</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id6c99112a-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/a\"><num value=\"a\">(a)</num><chapeau> The Congress declares that the science and engineering education responsibilities of the National Science Foundation are—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c99112b-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> to improve the quality of instruction in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c99112c-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> to support research, fellowships, teacher-faculty-business exchange programs in mathematics, science, and engineering;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c99112d-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> to improve the quality and availability of instrumentation for mathematics, science, and engineering instruction;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c99112e-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/a/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> to encourage partnerships in education between local and State education agencies, business and industry, colleges and universities, and cultural and professional institutions and societies; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id6c99112f-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/a/5\"><num value=\"5\">(5)</num><content> to improve the quality of education at all levels in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id6c991130-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s3911/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><content> In exercising its responsibilities to strengthen scientific and engineering research potential and science and engineering education programs at all levels, the Foundation shall avoid undue concentration of support for research and education activities.</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id6c991131-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/98/377/tI/s101\">Pub. See <ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s3913\">section 3913 of this title</ref>.</p>\n</note>\n<note style=\"-uslm-lc:I74\" topic=\"miscellaneous\" id=\"id6c991134-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb\"><heading class=\"centered smallCaps\">Undergraduate Science Improvement</heading><p><ref href=\"/us/pl/100/570/tI/s112\">Pub.
