<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id6c99fc03-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984"><num value="3984">§ 3984.</num><heading> Authorized activities</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id6c99fc04-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> Higher education partnership in education programs and activities; eligible applicants</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id6c99fc05-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> An applicant may use payments received under this part in any fiscal year for higher education programs and activities described in this subsection.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id6c99fc06-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> Grants under this subsection may be used for partnership in education programs—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc07-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> for the improvement of instruction in mathematics, science, computer science, and engineering education at the postsecondary level;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc08-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> for awarding scholarships to students at institutions of higher education in the fields of mathematics, science, computer science, and engineering;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc09-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> for the operation of faculty exchange programs by the institutions of higher education and business concerns within the State;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc0a-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> for research in the fields of mathematics, science, computer science, and engineering;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc0b-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and renovation of equipment and instrumentation for use in instruction in the fields of mathematics, science, computer science, and engineering; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc0c-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/2/F"><num value="F">(F)</num><content> to promote public understanding of science, mathematics, and computer science.</content>
</subparagraph>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id6c99fc0d-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> Education partnerships under this subsection may include institutions of higher education, business concerns, nonprofit private organizations, local educational agencies, professional mathematic and scientific associations, museums, libraries, educational television stations, and if the State so desires, appropriate State agencies.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id6c99fc0e-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Elementary and secondary partnership in education programs and activities; eligible applicants</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id6c99fc0f-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> An applicant may use payments received under this part in any fiscal year for programs and activities described in this subsection.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id6c99fc10-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> A local educational agency may carry out an elementary and secondary school partnership in education program under which—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc11-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> elementary and secondary school teachers in the schools of local educational agencies who teach mathematics, science, or computer science are made available to local business concerns and business concerns with establishments located in the community to serve in such concerns or establishments;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc12-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> personnel of local business concerns and business concerns with establishments located in the community serve as consultants, lecturers, teaching assistants, or teachers of mathematics, science, or computer science in the elementary and secondary schools within the State;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c99fc13-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> training and retraining is furnished to elementary and secondary school teachers of mathematics, science, and computer science under a cooperative arrangement between the State or local educational agency and appropriate business concerns;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c9a2324-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/2/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> secondary school students observe, participate, and work in local business concerns and business concerns with establishments located in the community; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6c9a2325-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s3984/b/2/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> computer clubs and extracurricular activities involving modern technologies are established in elementary and secondary schools.</content>
</subparagraph>
