<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id82da30d8-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341"><num value="4341">§ 4341.</num><heading> Cultural experiences grants</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id82da30d9-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary is authorized to, on a competitive basis, make grants to, and enter into contracts and cooperative agreements with, eligible entities to support the activities described in subsection (b).</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id82da30da-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Activities</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In carrying out this section, the Secretary shall support activities providing cultural experiences, through appropriate nonprofit organizations with a demonstrated proficiency in providing such activities, that—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id82da30db-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> enrich the lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id82da30dc-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> increase public awareness and understanding of deafness and of the artistic and intellectual achievements of deaf and hard-of-hearing persons; or</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id82da30dd-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> promote the integration of hearing, deaf, and hard-of-hearing persons through shared cultural, educational, and social experiences.</content>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id82da30de-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Applications</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">An eligible entity that desires to receive a grant, or enter into a contract or cooperative agreement, under this section shall submit an application to the Secretary at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Secretary may require.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id82da30df-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4341/d"><num value="d" class="bold">(d)</num><heading class="bold"> Authorization of appropriations</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section such sums as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009 and each of the five succeeding fiscal years.</p>
