L. 110–315, title IX, § 908, Aug. 14, 2008, 122 Stat. 3453.)","seq_in_title":1305,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch55/schII","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20","level":"title","num":"Title 20—","heading":"EDUCATION","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch55","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 55—","heading":"EDUCATION OF THE DEAF","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t20/ch55/schII","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER II—","heading":"GENERAL PROVISIONS","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id82da313f-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356\"><num value=\"4356\">§ 4356.</num><heading> Liaison for educational programs</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id82da3140-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Designation of liaison</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Secretary shall designate an individual in the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services of the Department of Education from among individuals who have experience in the education of individuals who are deaf to serve as liaison between the Department and Gallaudet University, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and other postsecondary educational programs for individuals who are deaf under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [<ref href=\"/us/usc/t20/s1400\">20 U.S.C. 1400</ref> et seq.], the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 [<ref href=\"/us/usc/t29/s701\">29 U.S.C. 701</ref> et seq.], and other Federal or non-Federal agencies, institutions, or organizations involved with the education or rehabilitation of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id82da3141-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Duties of liaison</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The individual serving as liaison for educational programs for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing shall:</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id82da3142-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> provide information to institutions regarding the Department’s efforts directly affecting the operation of such programs by such institutions;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id82da3143-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> review research and other activities carried out by the University, NTID, and other Federal or non-Federal agencies, institutions, or organizations involved with the education or rehabilitation of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing for the purpose of determining overlap and opportunities for coordination among such entities; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id82da3144-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356/b/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> provide such support and assistance as such institutions may request and the Secretary considers appropriate.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id82da3145-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t20/s4356/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Authority of Secretary</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">Nothing in this section may be construed to affect the authority of the Secretary under this chapter or any other Act with respect to Gallaudet University or the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id82da3146-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/99/371/tII/s206\">Pub.
