<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id82deeb7e-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4418"><num value="4418">§ 4418.</num><heading> Indian preference</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id82deeb7f-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4418/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal or State law, the Institute is authorized to develop a policy or policies for the Institute to extend preference to Indians in—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id82deeb80-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4418/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> admissions to, and enrollment in, programs conducted by the Institute,</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id82deeb81-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4418/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> employment by the Institute, and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id82deeb82-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4418/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> contracts, fellowships, and grants awarded by the Institute.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id82deeb83-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s4418/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Hiring preference</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In carrying out <ref href="/us/usc/t20/s4416/b/1">section 4416(b)(1) of this title</ref>, the President of the Institute shall, to the maximum extent practicable, give preference in hiring to Indians.</p>
