<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id6cccf2e3-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s6601"><num value="6601">§ 6601.</num><heading> Purpose</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The purpose of this subchapter is to provide grants to State educational agencies and subgrants to local educational agencies to—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6cccf2e4-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s6601/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> increase student achievement consistent with the challenging State academic standards;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6cccf2e5-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s6601/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders;</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6cccf2e6-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s6601/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> increase the number of teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id6cccf2e7-d2f2-11e9-aa7d-f436298d01bb" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s6601/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders.</content>
