<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id83432bc4-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a"><num value="7221a">§ 7221a.</num><heading> Program authorized</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id83432bc5-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary may carry out a charter school program that supports charter schools that serve early childhood, elementary school, or secondary school students by—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id83432bc6-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> supporting the startup of new charter schools, the replication of high-quality charter schools, and the expansion of high-quality charter schools;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id83432bc7-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> assisting charter schools in accessing credit to acquire and renovate facilities for school use; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id83432bc8-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><chapeau> carrying out national activities to support—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83432bc9-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/3/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> the activities described in paragraph (1);</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83432bca-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/3/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> the dissemination of best practices of charter schools for all schools;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83432bcb-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/3/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> the evaluation of the impact of the charter school program under this part on schools participating in such program; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83432bcc-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/a/3/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> stronger charter school authorizing practices.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id83432bcd-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Funding allotment</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">From the amount made available under <ref href="/us/usc/t20/s7221j">section 7221j of this title</ref> for a fiscal year, the Secretary shall—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id83432bce-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> reserve 12.5 percent to support charter school facilities assistance under <ref href="/us/usc/t20/s7221c">section 7221c of this title</ref>;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id83432bcf-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> reserve 22.5 percent to carry out national activities under <ref href="/us/usc/t20/s7221d">section 7221d of this title</ref>; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id83432bd0-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> use the remaining amount after the reservations under paragraphs (1) and (2) to carry out <ref href="/us/usc/t20/s7221b">section 7221b of this title</ref>.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id83432bd1-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s7221a/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Prior grants and subgrants</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The recipient of a grant or subgrant under part B of title V (as such part was in effect on the day before <date date="2015-12-10">December 10, 2015</date>) shall continue to receive funds in accordance with the terms and conditions of such grant or subgrant.</p>
