<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id83a4d458-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Gathering information</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id83a4d459-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> Sampling</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Statistics Commissioner may use the statistical method known as sampling (including random sampling) to carry out this part.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id83a4d45a-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Source of information</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Statistics Commissioner may, as appropriate, use information collected—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d45b-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> from States, local educational agencies, public and private schools, preschools, institutions of higher education, vocational and adult education programs, libraries, administrators, teachers, students, the general public, and other individuals, organizations, agencies, and institutions (including information collected by States and local educational agencies for their own use); and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d45c-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> by other offices within the Institute and by other Federal departments, agencies, and instrumentalities.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id83a4d45d-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/3"><num value="3" class="bold">(3)</num><heading class="bold"> Collection</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The Statistics Commissioner may—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d45e-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/3/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> enter into interagency agreements for the collection of statistics;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d45f-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/3/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> arrange with any agency, organization, or institution for the collection of statistics; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d460-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/3/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> assign employees of the Statistics Center to any such agency, organization, or institution to assist in such collection.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id83a4d461-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/4"><num value="4" class="bold">(4)</num><heading class="bold"> Technical assistance and coordination</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">In order to maximize the effectiveness of Department efforts to serve the educational needs of children and youth, the Statistics Commissioner shall—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d462-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/4/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> provide technical assistance to the Department offices that gather data for statistical purposes; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id83a4d463-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/b/4/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> coordinate with other Department offices in the collection of data.</content>
</subparagraph>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id83a4d464-3b28-11eb-8459-b1d1037aec5b" identifier="/us/usc/t20/s9544/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Duration</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements under this section may be awarded, on a competitive basis, for a period of not more than 5 years, and may be renewed at the discretion of the Statistics Commissioner for an additional period of not more than 5 years.</p>
