<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id7035a4d1-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/a/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Amateur athletic competition</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “amateur athletic competition” means a contest, game, meet, match, tournament, regatta, or other event in which amateur athletes compete (<ref href="/us/usc/t36/s220501/b/2">36 U.S.C. 220501(b)(2)</ref>).</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id7035a4d2-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/a/3"><num value="3" class="bold">(3)</num><heading class="bold"> Amateur athlete</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “amateur athlete” means an athlete who meets the eligibility standards established by the national governing body or paralympic sports organization for the sport in which the athlete competes (<ref href="/us/usc/t36/s22501/b/1">36 U.S.C. 22501(b)(1)</ref>).<ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002140">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002140"><num>1</num> So in original. <paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id7035a4d3-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/a/4"><num value="4" class="bold">(4)</num><heading class="bold"> Gene doping</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">The term “gene doping” means the nontherapeutic use of cells, genes, genetic elements, or of the modulation of gene expression, having the capacity to enhance athletic performance.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id7035a4d4-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau>The United States Anti-Doping Agency shall—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7035a4d5-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> serve as the independent anti-doping organization for the amateur athletic competitions recognized by the United States Olympic Committee;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7035a4d6-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> ensure that athletes participating in amateur athletic activities recognized by the United States Olympic Committee are prevented from using performance-enhancing drugs, or performance-enhancing genetic modifications accomplished through gene-doping;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7035a4d7-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> implement anti-doping education, research, testing, and adjudication programs to prevent United States Amateur Athletes participating in any activity recognized by the United States Olympic Committee from using performance-enhancing drugs, or performance-enhancing genetic modifications accomplished through gene-doping;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7035a4d8-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/b/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> serve as the United States representative responsible for coordination with other anti-doping organizations coordinating amateur athletic competitions recognized by the United States Olympic Committee to ensure the integrity of athletic competition, the health of the athletes and the prevention of use of performance-enhancing drugs, or performance-enhancing genetic modifications accomplished through gene-doping by United States amateur athletes; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id7035a4d9-6123-11e3-9d46-8388bf8dcc60" identifier="/us/usc/t21/s2001/b/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> permanently include “gene doping” among any list of prohibited substances adopted by the Agency.</content>
