The Office shall be headed by a director who shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Food and Drugs.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"ide5053788-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Purpose</heading><chapeau>The Director of the Office shall—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide5053789-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> report to the Commissioner of Food and Drugs on current Food and Drug Administration (referred to in this section as the “Administration”) levels of activity regarding women’s participation in clinical trials and the analysis of data by sex in the testing of drugs, medical devices, and biological products across, where appropriate, age, biological, and sociocultural contexts;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide505378a-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> establish short-range and long-range goals and objectives within the Administration for issues of particular concern to women’s health within the jurisdiction of the Administration, including, where relevant and appropriate, adequate inclusion of women and analysis of data by sex in Administration protocols and policies;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide505378b-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> provide information to women and health care providers on those areas in which differences between men and women exist;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide505378c-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> consult with pharmaceutical, biologics, and device manufacturers, health professionals with expertise in women’s issues, consumer organizations, and women’s health professionals on Administration policy with regard to women;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide505378d-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b/5\"><num value=\"5\">(5)</num><content> make annual estimates of funds needed to monitor clinical trials and analysis of data by sex in accordance with needs that are identified; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide505378e-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/b/6\"><num value=\"6\">(6)</num><content> serve as a member of the Department of Health and Human Services Coordinating Committee on Women’s Health (established under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s237a/b/4\">section 237a(b)(4) of title 42</ref>).</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"ide505378f-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s399b/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Authorization of appropriations</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">For the purpose of carrying out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary for each of the fiscal years 2010 through 2014.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"ide5053790-ec7d-11e6-944b-93361b188886\">(<ref href=\"/us/act/1938-06-25/ch675\">June 25, 1938, ch. 675</ref>, § 1011, as added <ref href=\"/us/pl/111/148/tIII\">Pub.
