L. 107–188, title III, § 332, June 12, 2002, 116 Stat. 679.)","seq_in_title":407,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t21/ch12/schIV","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t21","level":"title","num":"Title 21—","heading":"FOOD AND DRUGS","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t21/ch12","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 12—","heading":"MEAT INSPECTION","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t21/ch12/schIV","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER IV—","heading":"AUXILIARY PROVISIONS","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" id=\"id1d8f4c87-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c\"><num value=\"679c\">§ 679c.</num><heading> Expansion of Food Safety Inspection Service activities</heading><subsection class=\"indent0\" id=\"id1d8f4c88-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c/a\"><num value=\"a\">(a)</num><heading> In general</heading>\n<chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"blockIndent0\">The Secretary of Agriculture may utilize existing authorities to give high priority to enhancing and expanding the capacity of the Food Safety Inspection Service to conduct activities to—</chapeau><paragraph class=\"indent1\" id=\"id1d8f4c89-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> enhance the ability of the Service to inspect and ensure the safety and wholesomeness of meat and poultry products;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph class=\"indent1\" id=\"id1d8f4c8a-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> improve the capacity of the Service to inspect international meat and meat products, poultry and poultry products, and egg products at points of origin and at ports of entry;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph class=\"indent1\" id=\"id1d8f4c8b-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> strengthen the ability of the Service to collaborate with relevant agencies within the Department of Agriculture and with other entities in the Federal Government, the States, and Indian tribes (as defined in <ref href=\"/us/usc/t25/s450b/e\">section 450b(e) of title 25</ref>) through the sharing of information and technology; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph class=\"indent1\" id=\"id1d8f739c-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c/a/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> otherwise expand the capacity of the Service to protect against the threat of bioterrorism.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection class=\"indent0\" id=\"id1d8f739d-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t21/s679c/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><heading> Authorization of appropriations</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section, $15,000,000 for fiscal year 2002, and such sums as may be necessary for each subsequent fiscal year.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id1d8f739e-f63b-11e2-8470-abc29ba29c4d\">\n(<ref href=\"/us/pl/107/188/s332\">Pub.
