<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="ide7005f16-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481"><num value="481">§ 481.</num><heading> Automated case information</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="ide7005f17-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><content> The Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts shall ensure that each United States district court has the automated capability readily to retrieve information about the status of each case in such court.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="ide7005f18-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="ide7005f19-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> In carrying out subsection (a), the Director shall prescribe—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ide7005f1a-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/b/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> the information to be recorded in district court automated systems; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="ide7005f1b-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/b/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> standards for uniform categorization or characterization of judicial actions for the purpose of recording information on judicial actions in the district court automated systems.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="ide7005f1c-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> The uniform standards prescribed under paragraph (1)(B) of this subsection shall include a definition of what constitutes a dismissal of a case and standards for measuring the period for which a motion has been pending.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="ide7005f1d-b211-11e9-8509-ae4a43d56d64" identifier="/us/usc/t28/s481/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><content> Each United States district court shall record information as prescribed pursuant to subsection (b) of this section.</content>
