<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Sections expired by their own terms. They provided as follows:</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 221, acts <ref href="/us/act/1920-02-25/ch85/s13">Feb. 25, 1920, ch. 85, § 13</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/41/441">41 Stat. 441</ref>; <ref href="/us/act/1935-08-21/ch599/s1">Aug. 21, 1935, ch. 599, § 1</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/49/674">49 Stat. 674</ref>, provided for prospecting permits, their terms and conditions, extension, location of lands, marking land, notice of application for permits, permits in Alaska, exchanging permits for leases, and limited extensions to <date date="1938-12-31">Dec. 31, 1938</date>.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222, <ref href="/us/act/1922-01-11/ch28">act Jan. 11, 1922, ch. 28</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/42/356">42 Stat. 356</ref>, authorized Secretary of the Interior to extend time for drilling not to exceed three years.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222a, <ref href="/us/act/1926-04-05/ch107/s1">act Apr. 5, 1926, ch. 107, § 1</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/44/236">44 Stat. 236</ref>, authorized a further extension of two years for drilling.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222b, <ref href="/us/act/1926-04-05/ch107/s2">act Apr. 5, 1926, ch. 107, § 2</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/44/236">44 Stat. 236</ref>, provided for extension of expired permits for a period of two years from <date date="1926-04-05">Apr. 5, 1926</date>.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222c, <ref href="/us/act/1928-03-09/ch168/s1">act Mar. 9, 1928, ch. 168, § 1</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/45/252">45 Stat. 252</ref>, authorized a two year extension for permits.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222d, <ref href="/us/act/1928-03-09/ch168/s2">act Mar. 9, 1928, ch. 168, § 2</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/45/252">45 Stat. 252</ref>, authorized a two year extension of permits already expired.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222e, <ref href="/us/act/1930-01-23/ch25/s1">act Jan. 23, 1930, ch. 25, § 1</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/46/58">46 Stat. 58</ref>, provided that permits issued or extended for three years might be further for three years.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222f, <ref href="/us/act/1930-01-23/ch25/s2">act Jan. 23, 1930, ch. 25, § 2</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/46/59">46 Stat. 59</ref>, provided for an extension of permits already expired for a period of three years from <date date="1930-01-23">Jan. 23, 1930</date>.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222g, <ref href="/us/act/1932-06-30/ch319/s1">act June 30, 1932, ch. 319, § 1</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/47/445">47 Stat. 445</ref>, provided for a further extension of three years.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">Section 222h, <ref href="/us/act/1932-06-30/ch319/s2">act June 30, 1932, ch. 319, § 2</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/47/446">47 Stat. 446</ref>, authorized an extension, for permits already expired, of three years from <date date="1932-06-30">June 30, 1932</date>.</p>

<note style="-uslm-lc:I74" topic="miscellaneous" id="id9763a45f-406b-11eb-af5b-e123fb3036ca"><heading class="centered smallCaps">Compromise of Claims for Accrued Rental</heading><p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0"><ref href="/us/act/1942-07-29/ch534/s2">Act July 29, 1942, ch. 534, § 2</ref>, <ref href="/us/stat/56/726">56 Stat. 726</ref>, authorized Secretary of the Interior to make a compromise settlement of any claim for accrued rental under a lease issued pursuant to the provisions of <ref href="/us/usc/t30/s221">section 221 of this title</ref>, in any case in which he determined that it would be financially beneficial to the United States to make such a compromise settlement or in any case in which he determined that collection of the full amount of such accrued rental from the lessee was inadvisable because of the lessee’s financial resources being limited.</p>
