For amounts borrowed, the Secretary may issue—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id2255c81b-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s3104/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> certificates of indebtedness of the Government; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id2255c81c-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s3104/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> Treasury bills of the Government.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id2255c81d-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s3104/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><content> The Secretary may prescribe conditions for issuing certificates of indebtedness and Treasury bills under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t31/s3121\">section 3121 of this title</ref> and conditions under which the certificates and bills may be redeemed before maturity. Notwithstanding <ref href=\"/us/usc/t31/s3121/a/5\">section 3121(a)(5) of this title</ref>, the payment date of certificates of indebtedness and Treasury bills may not be more than one year after the date of issue.</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id2255c81e-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s3104/c\"><num value=\"c\">(c)</num><content> Treasury bills issued under this section may not be accepted before maturity to pay principal or interest on obligations of governments of foreign countries that are held by the United States Government.</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id2255c81f-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/97/258\">Pub. The words “subject to the limitation imposed by <ref href=\"/us/usc/t31/s757b\">section 757b of this title</ref>” are omitted as surplus. In clause (1), the words “and at such rate or rates of interest, payable at such time or times as he may prescribe” are omitted because they are superseded by section 3121(a), (b)(1), and (c) of the revised title. In clause (2), the words “on a discount basis and payable at maturity without interest” are omitted because they are superseded by section 3121(a) of the revised title. The words “of the Government” are added for consistency.</p>\n<p style=\"-uslm-lc:I21\" class=\"indent0\">In subsection (b), the words “terms and” after “upon such” are omitted as surplus. The words “for issuing . . . under <ref href=\"/us/usc/t31/s3121\">section 3121 of this title</ref>” are substituted for “subject to such terms and conditions” because of the restatement.
