<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id2268b339-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323"><num value="3323">§ 3323.</num><heading> Warrants</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id2268b33a-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><chapeau> Except as provided in <ref href="/us/usc/t31/s3326">section 3326 of this title</ref>, the Secretary of the Treasury may pay out money only against a warrant. A warrant shall be—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id2268b33b-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> authorized by law;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id2268b33c-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> signed by the Secretary; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id2268b33d-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> countersigned by the Comptroller General.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id2268b33e-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id2268b33f-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> A disbursing official shall send to the Secretary with a warrant a certificate under <ref href="/us/usc/t31/s3526">section 3526 of this title</ref>, or a requisition for an advance. The certificate or requisition shall state the appropriation to which the payment is to be charged.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id2268b340-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> The Secretary shall return the certificate or requisition to the Comptroller General with the date and amount endorsed on the certificate or requisition.</content>

</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id2268b341-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><content> A requisition for the payment of money on an audited account or for depositing money in the Treasury is not required.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id2268b342-3bf5-11e3-9fd0-985dd9cd422a" identifier="/us/usc/t31/s3323/d"><num value="d">(d)</num><content> The Secretary and the Comptroller General shall charge to the appropriate appropriation in their books any money paid by a warrant.</content>
