and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id701cf46e-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> charge separately to each superintendent, who shall account for, copper to be used in the alloy of gold and silver bullion.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id701cf46f-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Settlement of Accounts.—</inline></heading><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id701cf470-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">In general</inline>.—</heading><content>At least once each year, the Secretary of the Treasury shall settle the accounts of the superintendents of the mints.</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id701cf471-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Procedure</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>At any settlement under this subsection, the superintendent shall—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id701d1b82-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> return to the Secretary any coin, clipping, or other bullion in the possession of the superintendent; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id701d1b83-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> present the Secretary with a statement of bullion received and returned since the last settlement (including any bullion returned for settlement).</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id701d1b84-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Audit</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>The Secretary shall—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id701d1b85-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/3/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> audit the accounts of each superintendent; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id701d1b86-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/3/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><chapeau> allow each superintendent the waste of precious metals that the Secretary determines is necessary—</chapeau><clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"id701d1b87-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/3/B/i\"><num value=\"i\">(i)</num><content> for refining and minting (within the limitations which the Secretary shall prescribe); and</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"id701d1b88-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/b/3/B/ii\"><num value=\"ii\">(ii)</num><content> for casting fine gold and silver bars (within the limit prescribed for refining), except that any waste allowance under this clause may not apply to deposit operations.</content>\n</clause>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id701d1b89-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/c\"><num value=\"c\">(c)</num><content> After settlement, the Secretary shall compare the amount of gold and silver bullion and coins on hand with the total liabilities of the mints. The Secretary also shall make a statement of the ordinary expense account.</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id701d1b8a-b854-11e9-b72c-a5fb66e51517\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t31/s5133/d\"><num value=\"d\">(d)</num><content> The Secretary shall procure for each mint a series of standard weights corresponding to the standard troy pound of the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the Department of Commerce. The series shall include a one pound weight and multiples and subdivisions of one pound from .01 grain to 25 pounds. The word “bona fide” is omitted as being included in “necessary”.</p>\n<p style=\"-uslm-lc:I21\" class=\"indent0\">In subsection (c), the words “It shall also be the duty of the superintendent to forward a correct statement of his balance sheet” are omitted as superseded by the source provisions restated in section 321(c) of the revised title. The words “mints and assay offices” are substituted for “mint” for consistency in the section.</p>\n<p style=\"-uslm-lc:I21\" class=\"indent0\">In subsection (d), the words “National Bureau of Standards of the Department of Commerce” are substituted for “Bureau of Standards of the United States” because of 15:1511. The words “from .01 grain” are substituted for “from the hundredths part of a grain” for consistency.
