<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id792d4ded-d970-11ed-b459-9eccedde7dc0" identifier="/us/usc/t33/s1958/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Amounts authorized for Coast Guard</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Of the amounts authorized for each fiscal year under <ref href="/us/usc/t14/s4902/1">section 4902(1) of title 14</ref>, up to $2,000,000 is authorized for the Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating for use by the Commandant of the Coast Guard to carry out <ref href="/us/usc/t33/s1953">section 1953 of this title</ref>, of which not more than 5 percent is authorized for each fiscal year for administrative costs.</p>

(b) of this section, which is section 9 of the Marine Debris Act, to reflect the probable intent of Congress.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">2020—Subsec. (a). <ref href="/us/pl/116/224">Pub. L. 116–224</ref> substituted “$15,000,000” for “$10,000,000” and “7 percent” for “5 percent”.</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I21" class="indent0">2018—<ref href="/us/pl/115/265">Pub. L. 115–265</ref> amended section generally. Prior to amendment, section read as follows: “There are authorized to be appropriated for each fiscal year 2006 through 2010—</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1">“(1) to the Administrator for carrying out sections 1952 and 1955 of this title, $10,000,000, of which no more than 10 percent may be for administrative costs; and</p>
<p style="-uslm-lc:I22" class="indent1">“(2) to the Secretary of the Department in which the Coast Guard is operating, for the use of the Commandant of the Coast Guard in carrying out <ref href="/us/usc/t33/s1953">section 1953 of this title</ref>, $2,000,000, of which no more than 10 percent may be used for administrative costs.”</p>
