L. 109–162, title XI, § 1111(c)(2)(B), Jan. 5, 2006, 119 Stat. 3101.)","seq_in_title":33,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stI/ch101/schV/ptC","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34","level":"title","num":"Title 34—","heading":"CRIME CONTROL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stI","level":"subtitle","num":"Subtitle I—","heading":"Comprehensive Acts","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stI/ch101","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 101—","heading":"JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stI/ch101/schV","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER V—","heading":"BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAMS","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stI/ch101/schV/ptC","level":"part","num":"Part C—","heading":"Administrative Provisions","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id2607ba6e-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201\"><num value=\"10201\">§ 10201.</num><heading> Evaluation</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id2607ba6f-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Guidelines and comprehensive evaluations</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">To increase the efficiency and effectiveness of programs funded under this subchapter, the National Institute of Justice shall—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id2607ba70-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> develop guidelines, in cooperation with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, to assist State and local units of government to conduct program evaluations; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id2607ba71-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> conduct a reasonable number of comprehensive evaluations of programs funded under section 10156 (formula grants) and section 10171 (discretionary grants) of this title.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id2607e182-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Criteria for selecting programs for review</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In selecting programs for review, the Director of the National Institute of Justice should consider—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id2607e183-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> whether the program establishes or demonstrates a new and innovative approach to drug or crime control;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id2607e184-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> the cost of the program to be evaluated and the number of similar programs funded under section 10156 (formula grants) of this title;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id26080895-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/b/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> whether the program has a high potential to be replicated in other jurisdictions; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id26080896-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/b/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> whether there is substantial public awareness and community involvement in the program. Routine auditing, monitoring, and internal assessment of a State and local drug control program’s progress shall be the sole responsibility of the Bureau of Justice Assistance.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id26080897-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s10201/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Annual report</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Director of the National Institute of Justice shall annually report to the President, the Attorney General, and the Congress on the nature and findings of the evaluation and research and development activities funded under this section.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id26082fa8-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/90/351/tI/s520\">Pub.
