<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id263c5e75-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10442"><num value="10442">§ 10442.</num><heading> Establishment of Violence Against Women Office</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id263c5e76-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10442/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">There is hereby established within the Department of Justice, under the general authority of the Attorney General, a Violence Against Women Office (in this subchapter referred to as the “Office”).</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id263c8587-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10442/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Separate office</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Office shall be a separate and distinct office within the Department of Justice, headed by a Director, who shall report to the Attorney General and serve as Counsel to the Attorney General on the subject of violence against women, and who shall have final authority over all grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts awarded by the Office.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id263c8588-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10442/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Jurisdiction</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Under the general authority of the Attorney General, the Office—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id263c8589-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10442/c/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> shall have sole jurisdiction over all duties and functions described in <ref href="/us/usc/t34/s10444">section 10444 of this title</ref>; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id263c858a-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10442/c/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> shall be solely responsible for coordination with other departments, agencies, or offices of all activities authorized or undertaken under the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (title VI of Public 103–322) <ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002029">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002029"><num>1</num> So in original.
