<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id264008a9-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10450"><num value="10450">§ 10450.</num><heading> Costs for criminal charges and protection orders</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id264008aa-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10450/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">A State, Indian tribal government, or unit of local government, shall not be entitled to funds under this subchapter unless the State, Indian tribal government, or unit of local government—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id264008ab-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10450/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> certifies that its laws, policies, and practices do not require, in connection with the prosecution of any misdemeanor or felony domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking offense, or in connection with the filing, issuance, registration, modification, enforcement, dismissal, withdrawal or service of a protection order, or a petition for a protection order, to protect a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, that the victim bear the costs associated with the filing of criminal charges against the offender, or the costs associated with the filing, issuance, registration, modification, enforcement, dismissal, withdrawal or service of a warrant, protection order, petition for a protection order, or witness subpoena, whether issued inside or outside the State, tribal, or local jurisdiction; or</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id264008ac-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10450/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> gives the Attorney General assurances that its laws, policies and practices will be in compliance with the requirements of paragraph (1) within the later of—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id264008ad-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10450/a/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> the period ending on the date on which the next session of the State legislature ends; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id264008ae-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s10450/a/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> 2 years after <date date="2000-10-28">October 28, 2000</date>.</content>
