<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id26a5f5c1-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578"><num value="12578">§ 12578.</num><heading> Scholarship agreement</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id26a5f5c2-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">A person who receives a scholarship under this part shall enter into an agreement with the Director.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id26a5f5c3-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Contents</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">An agreement described in subsection (a) shall—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id26a5f5c4-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> provide assurances that the scholarship recipient will work in a law enforcement position in the State that awarded the scholarship in accordance with the service obligation described in subsection (c) after completion of the scholarship recipient’s academic courses leading to an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id26a5f5c5-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> provide assurances that the scholarship recipient will repay the entire scholarship in accordance with such terms and conditions as the Director shall prescribe if the requirements of the agreement are not complied with, unless the scholarship recipient—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id26a5f5c6-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> dies;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id26a5f5c7-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> becomes physically or emotionally disabled, as established by the sworn affidavit of a qualified physician; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="id26a5f5c8-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> has been discharged in bankruptcy; and</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id26a5f5c9-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> set forth the terms and conditions under which the scholarship recipient may seek employment in the field of law enforcement in a State other than the State that awarded the scholarship.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="id26a61cda-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Service obligation</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id26a61cdb-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/c/1"><num value="1" class="bold">(1)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">Except as provided in paragraph (2), a person who receives a scholarship under this part shall work in a law enforcement position in the State that awarded the scholarship for a period of 1 month for each credit hour for which funds are received under the scholarship.</p>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I79" class="indent3 firstIndent-2" id="id26a61cdc-0f21-11eb-9212-a1a9175aa019" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s12578/c/2"><num value="2" class="bold">(2)</num><heading class="bold"> Special rule</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1">For purposes of satisfying the requirement of paragraph (1), a scholarship recipient shall work in a law enforcement position in the State that awarded the scholarship for not less than 6 months but shall not be required to work in such a position for more than 2 years.</p>
