<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In this division—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id158371c8-8160-11e9-8f35-c624b526f388" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s30502/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> the term “crime of violence” has the meaning given that term in <ref href="/us/usc/t18/s16">section 16 of title 18</ref>;</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id158371c9-8160-11e9-8f35-c624b526f388" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s30502/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> the term “hate crime” has the meaning given that term in section 280003(a) of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 (<ref href="/us/pl/103/322">Public Law 103–322</ref>; <ref href="/us/stat/108/2096">108 Stat. 2096</ref>), as amended by this Act;</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id158371ca-8160-11e9-8f35-c624b526f388" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s30502/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> the term “local” means a county, city, town, township, parish, village, or other general purpose political subdivision of a State; and</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id158371cb-8160-11e9-8f35-c624b526f388" identifier="/us/usc/t34/s30502/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> the term “State” includes the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and any other territory or possession of the United States.</content>
