L. 115–185, § 4, June 18, 2018, 132 Stat. 1485.)","seq_in_title":738,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stVI/ch607","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34","level":"title","num":"Title 34—","heading":"CRIME CONTROL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stVI","level":"subtitle","num":"Subtitle VI—","heading":"Other Crime Control and Law Enforcement Matters","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t34/stVI/ch607","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 607—","heading":"PROJECT SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"ide3ec423d-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703\"><num value=\"60703\">§ 60703.</num><heading> Purpose</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"ide3ec423e-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Project Safe Neighborhoods Block Grant Program</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The purpose of the Program is to foster and improve existing partnerships between Federal, State, and local agencies, including the United States Attorney in each Federal judicial district, entities representing members of the community affected by increased violence, victims’ advocates, and researchers to create safer neighborhoods through sustained reductions in violent crimes by—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide3ec694f-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> developing and executing comprehensive strategic plans to reduce violent crimes, including the enforcement of gun laws, and prioritizing efforts focused on identified subsets of individuals or organizations responsible for increasing violence in a particular geographic area;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide3ec6950-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> developing evidence-based and data-driven intervention and prevention initiatives, including juvenile justice projects and activities which may include street-level outreach, conflict mediation, provision of treatment and social services, and the changing of community norms, in order to reduce violence; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide3ec6951-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> collecting data on outcomes achieved through the Program, including the effect on the violent crime rate, incarceration rate, and recidivism rate of the jurisdiction.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"ide3ec9062-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Additional purpose areas</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In addition to the purpose described in subsection (a), the Attorney General may use funds authorized under this chapter for any of the following purposes—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide3ec9063-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> competitive and evidence-based programs to reduce gun crime and gang violence;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"ide3ec9064-4aa6-11eb-b55f-d70c2cfce33a\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t34/s60703/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> the Edward Byrne criminal justice innovation program; <ref class=\"footnoteRef\" idref=\"fn002229\">1</ref><note type=\"footnote\" id=\"fn002229\"><num>1</num> So in original.
