<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id581e05c8-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002"><num value="2002">§ 2002.</num><heading> Definitions</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id581e05c9-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">In General</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>In this chapter:</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id581e05ca-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> The term “homeless veteran” means a veteran who is homeless (as that term is defined in subsection (a) or (b) of section 103 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (<ref href="/us/usc/t42/s11302">42 U.S.C. 11302</ref>)).</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id581e05cb-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> The term “grant and per diem provider” means an entity in receipt of a grant under section 2011 or 2012 of this title.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id581e05cc-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Veteran Defined</inline>.—</heading><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id581e05cd-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> Notwithstanding <ref href="/us/usc/t38/s101/2">section 101(2) of this title</ref> and except as provided in paragraph (2), for purposes of sections 2011, 2012, 2013, 2044, and 2061 of this title, the term “veteran” means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, regardless of length of service, and who was discharged or released therefrom.</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id581e05ce-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> For purposes of paragraph (1), the term “veteran” excludes a person who—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id581e05cf-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/b/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> received a dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id581e05d0-a3d3-11e9-b0bd-c903c5e74998" identifier="/us/usc/t38/s2002/b/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> was discharged or dismissed from the Armed Forces by reason of the sentence of a general court-martial.</content>
