<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id9558d34a-850f-11e8-92d7-ea368389de6a" identifier="/us/usc/t39/s5401"><num value="5401">§ 5401.</num><heading> Authorization</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id9558d34b-850f-11e8-92d7-ea368389de6a" identifier="/us/usc/t39/s5401/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><content> The Postal Service is authorized to provide for the safe and expeditious transportation of mail by aircraft.</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="id9558d34c-850f-11e8-92d7-ea368389de6a" identifier="/us/usc/t39/s5401/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><content> Except as otherwise provided in <ref href="/us/usc/t39/s5402">section 5402 of this title</ref>, the Postal Service may make such rules, regulations, and orders consistent with part A of subtitle VII of title 49, or any order, rule, or regulation made by the Secretary of Transportation thereunder, as may be necessary for such transportation.</content>
