<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="idf0936456-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556"><num value="556">§ 556.</num><heading> Disposal of dredge vessels</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idf0936457-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/a"><num value="a">(a)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">In General</inline>.—</heading><content>The Administrator of General Services, pursuant to sections 521 through 527, 529, and 549 of this title, may dispose of a United States Army Corps of Engineers vessel used for dredging, together with related equipment owned by the Federal Government and under the control of the Chief of Engineers, if the Secretary of the Army declares the vessel to be in excess of federal needs.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idf0936458-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/b"><num value="b">(b)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Recipients and Purposes</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>Disposal under this section is accomplished—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idf0936459-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> through sale or lease to—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idf093645a-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/b/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> a foreign government as part of a Corps of Engineers technical assistance program;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idf0938a6b-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/b/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> a federal or state maritime academy for training purposes; or</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idf0938a6c-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/b/1/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> a non-federal public body for scientific, educational, or cultural purposes; or</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idf0938a6d-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> through sale solely for scrap to foreign or domestic interests.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idf0938a6e-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/c"><num value="c">(c)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">No Dredging Activities</inline>.—</heading><content>A vessel described in subsection (a) shall not be disposed of under any law for the purpose of engaging in dredging activities within the United States.</content>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0" id="idf0938a6f-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s556/d"><num value="d">(d)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Deposit of Amounts Collected</inline>.—</heading><content>Amounts collected from the sale or lease of a vessel or equipment under this section shall be deposited into the revolving fund authorized by section 101 (9th par.) of the Civil Functions Appropriation <ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn002006">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn002006"><num>1</num> So in original. Probably should be “Appropriations”.</note> Act, 1954 (<ref href="/us/usc/t33/s576">33 U.S.C. 576</ref>), to be available, as provided in appropriation laws, for the operation and maintenance of vessels under the control of the Corps of Engineers.</content>
</subsection>
