The land may be sold for cash or on a deferred-payment plan the Secretary approves, at a price not less than the Government paid for it and not less than its present appraised value as determined by the Secretary.</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id38c4b2e9-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t40/s8735/b\"><num value=\"b\">(b)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Sale to Highest Bidder</inline>.—</heading><content>In selling any parcel of land under this section, the Secretary shall have public or private solicitation for bids or offers be made as the Secretary considers appropriate. The Secretary shall sell the parcel to the party agreeing to pay the highest price if the price is otherwise satisfactory. If the price offered or bid by the owner of land abutting the land to be sold equals the highest price offered or bid by any other party, the parcel may be sold to the owner of the abutting land.</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id38c4b2ea-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t40/s8735/c\"><num value=\"c\">(c)</num><heading> <inline class=\"small-caps\">Paying Expenses and Depositing Proceeds</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>The Secretary—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id38c4b2eb-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t40/s8735/c/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> may pay the reasonable and necessary expenses of the sale of each parcel of land sold; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id38c4b2ec-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t40/s8735/c/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><chapeau> shall deposit the net proceeds of each sale in the Treasury to the credit of the Government and the District of Columbia in the proportion that each—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id38c4b2ed-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t40/s8735/c/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> paid the appropriations used to acquire the parcels; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id38c4b2ee-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t40/s8735/c/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> was obligated to pay the appropriations, at the time of acquisition, by reimbursement.</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id38c4b2ef-56ae-11e3-9436-86e561d18d41\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/107/217\">Pub.
