<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="idf09c16d6-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s902"><num value="902">§ 902.</num><heading> Definitions</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In this chapter, the following definitions apply:</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idf09c16d7-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s902/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Unit of general local government</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “unit of general local government” means a city, county, town, parish, village, or other general-purpose political subdivision of a State.</content>

<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idf09c16d8-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s902/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><heading> <inline class="small-caps">Urban area</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>The term “urban area” means—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idf09c16d9-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s902/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> a geographical area within the jurisdiction of an incorporated city, town, borough, village, or other unit of general local government, except a county or parish, having a population of at least 10,000 inhabitants;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idf09c16da-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s902/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> that portion of the geographical area within the jurisdiction of a county, town, township, or similar governmental entity which contains no incorporated unit of general local government but has a population density of at least 1,500 inhabitants per square mile; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idf09c16db-b211-11e9-9941-df2837ad0631" identifier="/us/usc/t40/s902/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> that portion of a geographical area having a population density of at least 1,500 inhabitants per square mile and situated adjacent to the boundary of an incorporated unit of general local government which has a population of at least 10,000.</content>
