L. 111–320, title II, § 201, Dec. 20, 2010, 124 Stat. 3484.)","seq_in_title":6143,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch110","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch110","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 110—","heading":"FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND SERVICES","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"idaced9270-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401\"><num value=\"10401\">§ 10401.</num><heading> Short title; purpose</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacedb981-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Short title</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">This chapter may be cited as the “Family Violence Prevention and Services Act”.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacedb982-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Purpose</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">It is the purpose of this chapter to—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacedb983-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> assist States and Indian tribes in efforts to increase public awareness about, and primary and secondary prevention of, family violence, domestic violence, and dating violence;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacedb984-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> assist States and Indian tribes in efforts to provide immediate shelter and supportive services for victims of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence, and their dependents;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacedb985-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401/b/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> provide for a national domestic violence hotline;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacedb986-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s10401/b/4\"><num value=\"4\">(4)</num><content> provide for technical assistance and training relating to family violence, domestic violence, and dating violence programs to States and Indian tribes, local public agencies (including law enforcement agencies, courts, and legal, social service, and health care professionals in public agencies), nonprofit private organizations (including faith-based and charitable organizations, community-based organizations, and voluntary associations), tribal organizations, and other persons seeking such assistance and training.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"idacedb987-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/98/457/tIII/s301\">Pub.
