L. 102–507, § 8(a), Oct. 24, 1992, 106 Stat. 3286.)","seq_in_title":6278,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch118/schV","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch118","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 118—","heading":"ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AND RELATED DEMENTIAS RESEARCH","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch118/schV","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER V—","heading":"EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"idacfcd44d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292\"><num value=\"11292\">§ 11292.</num><heading> Education of public, individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, and health and long-term care providers</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd44e-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Training models grants</heading><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I79\" class=\"indent3 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd44f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1\"><num value=\"1\" class=\"bold\">(1)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Grants</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\">The Director of the National Institute on Aging may award grants to eligible entities to assist the entities in developing and evaluating model training programs—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idacfcd450-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><chapeau> for—</chapeau><clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd451-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/A/i\"><num value=\"i\">(i)</num><content> health care professionals, including mental health professionals;</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd452-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/A/ii\"><num value=\"ii\">(ii)</num><content> health care paraprofessionals;</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd453-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/A/iii\"><num value=\"iii\">(iii)</num><content> personnel, including information and referral, case management, and in-home services personnel (including personnel receiving support under the Older Americans Act of 1965 (<ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s3001\">42 U.S.C. 3001</ref> et seq.)), providing supportive services to the elderly and the families of the elderly;</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd454-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/A/iv\"><num value=\"iv\">(iv)</num><content> family caregivers providing care and treatment for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders; and</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd455-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/A/v\"><num value=\"v\">(v)</num><content> personnel of local organizations (including community groups, business and labor groups, and religious, educational, and charitable organizations) that have traditionally not been involved in planning and developing long-term care services; and</content>\n</clause>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idacfcd456-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><chapeau> with attention to such variables as—</chapeau><clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd457-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/B/i\"><num value=\"i\">(i)</num><content> curricula development for training and continuing education programs;</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd458-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/B/ii\"><num value=\"ii\">(ii)</num><content> care setting; and</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"idacfcd459-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/1/B/iii\"><num value=\"iii\">(iii)</num><content> intervention technique.</content>\n</clause>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I79\" class=\"indent3 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd45a-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/2\"><num value=\"2\" class=\"bold\">(2)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Eligible entity</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\">To be eligible to receive grants under this subsection, an entity shall be—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idacfcd45b-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> an educational institution providing training and education in medicine, psychology, nursing, social work, gerontology, or health care administration;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idacfcd45c-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> an educational institution providing preparatory training and education of personnel for nursing homes, hospitals, and home or community settings; or</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"idacfcd45d-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/a/2/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><content> an Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center described in <ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s285e–2/a\">section 285e–2(a) of this title</ref>.</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd45e-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Educational grants</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Director of the National Institute on Aging is authorized to make grants to public and nonprofit private entities to assist such entities in establishing programs, for educating health care providers and the families of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders, regarding—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacfcd45f-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/b/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> caring for individuals with such diseases or disorders; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacfcd460-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/b/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> the availability in the community of public and private sources of assistance, including financial assistance, for caring for such individuals.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd461-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/c\"><num value=\"c\" class=\"bold\">(c)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Award of grants</heading><chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">In awarding grants under this section, the Director of the National Institute on Aging shall—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacfcd462-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/c/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> award the grants on the basis of merit;</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacfcd463-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/c/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><content> award the grants in a manner that will ensure access to the programs described in subsections (a) and (b) by rural, minority, and underserved populations throughout the country; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"idacfcd464-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/c/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><content> ensure that the grants are distributed among the principal geographic regions of the United States.</content>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd465-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/d\"><num value=\"d\" class=\"bold\">(d)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Application</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">To be eligible to receive a grant under this section, an entity shall submit an application to the Director of the National Institute on Aging at such time, in such manner, and containing or accompanied by such information, as the Director may reasonably require, including, at a minimum, an assurance that the entity will coordinate programs provided under this section with the State agency designated under section 305(a)(1) of the Older Americans Act of 1965 [<ref href=\"/us/usc/t42/s3025/a/1\">42 U.S.C. 3025(a)(1)</ref>], in the State in which the entity will provide such programs.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"idacfcd466-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s11292/e\"><num value=\"e\" class=\"bold\">(e)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Coordination</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Director of the National Institute on Aging shall coordinate the award of grants under this section with the heads of other appropriate agencies, including the Commissioner of the Administration on Aging.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"idacfcfb77-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/99/660/tIX/s962\">Pub.
