<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="idd8de5606-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c"><num value="12655c">§ 12655c.</num><heading> Focus of programs</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idd8de5607-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Programs that receive assistance under this division may carry out activities that—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idd8de5608-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><chapeau> in the case of conservation corps programs, focus on—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5609-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> conservation, rehabilitation, and the improvement of wildlife habitat, rangelands, parks, and recreational areas;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de560a-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> urban and rural revitalization, historical and cultural site preservation, and reforestation of both urban and rural areas;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de560b-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> fish culture, wildlife habitat maintenance and improvement, and other fishery assistance;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de560c-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> road and trail maintenance and improvement;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de560d-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> erosion, flood, drought, and storm damage assistance and controls;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de560e-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/F"><num value="F">(F)</num><content> stream, lake, waterfront harbor, and port improvement;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de560f-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/G"><num value="G">(G)</num><content> wetlands protection and pollution control;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5610-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/H"><num value="H">(H)</num><content> insect, disease, rodent, and fire prevention and control;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5611-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/I"><num value="I">(I)</num><content> the improvement of abandoned railroad beds and rights-of-way;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5612-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/J"><num value="J">(J)</num><content> energy conservation projects, renewable resource enhancement, and recovery of biomass;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5613-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/K"><num value="K">(K)</num><content> reclamation and improvement of strip-mined land;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5614-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/L"><num value="L">(L)</num><content> forestry, nursery, and cultural operations; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5615-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/1/M"><num value="M">(M)</num><content> making public facilities accessible to individuals with disabilities.</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idd8de5616-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><chapeau> in the case of youth service corps programs, include participant service in—</chapeau><subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5617-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2/A"><num value="A">(A)</num><content> State, local, and regional governmental agencies;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5618-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2/B"><num value="B">(B)</num><content> nursing homes, hospices, senior centers, hospitals, local libraries, parks, recreational facilities, child and adult day care centers, programs serving individuals with disabilities, and schools;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de5619-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2/C"><num value="C">(C)</num><content> law enforcement agencies,<ref class="footnoteRef" idref="fn004015">1</ref><note type="footnote" id="fn004015"><num>1</num> So in original. The comma probably should not appear.</note> and penal and probation systems;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de561a-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2/D"><num value="D">(D)</num><content> private nonprofit organizations that primarily focus on social service such as community action agencies;</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de561b-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2/E"><num value="E">(E)</num><content> activities that focus on the rehabilitation or improvement of public facilities, neighborhood improvements, literacy training that benefits educationally disadvantaged individuals, weatherization of and basic repairs to low-income housing including housing occupied by older adults, energy conservation (including solar energy techniques), removal of architectural barriers to access by individuals with disabilities to public facilities, activities that focus on drug and alcohol abuse education, prevention and treatment, and conservation, maintenance, or restoration of natural resources on publicly held lands; and</content>
</subparagraph>
<subparagraph style="-uslm-lc:I13" class="indent2" id="idd8de561c-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/2/F"><num value="F">(F)</num><content> any other nonpartisan civic activities and services that the Corporation determines to be of a substantial social benefit in meeting unmet human, educational, or environmental needs (particularly needs related to poverty) or in the community where volunteer service is to be performed; or</content>
</subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idd8de561d-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> encompass the focuses and services described in both paragraphs (1) and (2).</content>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idd8de561e-406b-11eb-bd25-fd7436c081d8" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12655c/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Limitation on service</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">No participant shall perform any specific activity for more than a 6-month period. No participant shall remain enrolled in programs assisted under this division for more than 24 months.</p>
