<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="id8f845b8d-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12703"><num value="12703">§ 12703.</num><heading> Purposes of Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The purposes of this Act are—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8f845b8e-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12703/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> to help families not owning a home to save for a down payment for the purchase of a home;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8f845b8f-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12703/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> to retain wherever feasible as housing affordable to low-income families those dwelling units produced for such purpose with Federal assistance;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8f845b90-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12703/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> to extend and strengthen partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector, including for-profit and nonprofit organizations, in the production and operation of housing affordable to low-income and moderate-income families;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8f845b91-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12703/4"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> to expand and improve Federal rental assistance for very low-income families; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="id8f845b92-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s12703/5"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> to increase the supply of supportive housing, which combines structural features and services needed to enable persons with special needs to live with dignity and independence.</content>
