L. 102–486, title XXI, § 2102, Oct. 24, 1992, 106 Stat. 3068.)","seq_in_title":6874,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch134/schIX/ptA","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch134","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 134—","heading":"ENERGY POLICY","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch134/schIX","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER IX—","heading":"ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch134/schIX/ptA","level":"part","num":"Part A—","heading":"Improved Energy Efficiency","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id8fa37bc9-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452\"><num value=\"13452\">§ 13452.</num><heading> Natural gas and electric heating and cooling technologies</heading><subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8fa37bca-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a\"><num value=\"a\" class=\"bold\">(a)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Program direction</heading><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id8fa37bcb-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> The Secretary shall conduct a 5-year program, in accordance with sections 13541 and 13542 of this title, on energy efficient natural gas and electric heating and cooling technologies for residential and commercial buildings.</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id8fa37bcc-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><chapeau> The natural gas heating and cooling program shall include activities on—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fa37bcd-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> thermally activated heat pumps, including absorption heat pumps and engine-driven heat pumps; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fa37bce-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> other advanced natural gas technologies, including fuel cells for residential and commercial applications.</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\" id=\"id8fa37bcf-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/3\"><num value=\"3\">(3)</num><chapeau> The electric heating and cooling program shall focus on—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fa37bd0-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/3/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> advanced heat pumps;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fa37bd1-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/3/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> thermal storage; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fa37bd2-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/a/3/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><content> advanced electric HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) and refrigeration systems that utilize replacements for chlorofluorocarbons.</content>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n</subsection>\n<subsection style=\"-uslm-lc:I19\" class=\"indent2 firstIndent-2\" id=\"id8fa37bd3-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s13452/b\"><num value=\"b\" class=\"bold\">(b)</num><heading class=\"bold\"> Proposals</heading><content><p style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">Within 180 days after <date date=\"1992-10-24\">October 24, 1992</date>, the Secretary shall solicit proposals for conducting activities under this section.</p>\n</content>\n</subsection>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id8fa37bd4-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/102/486/tXXI/s2102\">Pub.
