L. 109–58, title IX, § 933, Aug. 8, 2005, 119 Stat. 872.)","seq_in_title":7541,"parent_identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149/schIX/ptC","ancestors":[{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42","level":"title","num":"Title 42—","heading":"THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149","level":"chapter","num":"CHAPTER 149—","heading":"NATIONAL ENERGY POLICY AND PROGRAMS","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149/schIX","level":"subchapter","num":"SUBCHAPTER IX—","heading":"RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT","status":null,"is_section":false},{"identifier":"/us/usc/t42/ch149/schIX/ptC","level":"part","num":"Part C—","heading":"Renewable Energy","status":null,"is_section":false}],"xml":"<section xmlns=\"http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0\" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:dc=\"http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/\" xmlns:dcterms=\"http://purl.org/dc/terms/\" style=\"-uslm-lc:I80\" id=\"id8fcc1292-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233\"><num value=\"16233\">§ 16233.</num><heading> Low-cost renewable hydrogen and infrastructure for vehicle propulsion</heading>\n<chapeau style=\"-uslm-lc:I11\" class=\"indent0\">The Secretary shall—</chapeau><paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fcc1293-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/1\"><num value=\"1\">(1)</num><content> establish a research, development, and demonstration program to determine the feasibility of using hydrogen propulsion in light-weight vehicles and the integration of the associated hydrogen production infrastructure using off-the-shelf components; and</content>\n</paragraph>\n<paragraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I12\" class=\"indent1\" id=\"id8fcc1294-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2\"><num value=\"2\">(2)</num><chapeau> identify universities and institutions that—</chapeau><subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id8fcc1295-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2/A\"><num value=\"A\">(A)</num><content> have expertise in researching and testing vehicles fueled by hydrogen, methane, and other fuels;</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id8fcc1296-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2/B\"><num value=\"B\">(B)</num><content> have expertise in integrating off-the-shelf components to minimize cost; and</content>\n</subparagraph>\n<subparagraph style=\"-uslm-lc:I13\" class=\"indent2\" id=\"id8fcc1297-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2/C\"><num value=\"C\">(C)</num><chapeau> within 2 years can test a vehicle based on an existing commercially available platform with a curb weight of not less than 2,000 pounds before modifications, that—</chapeau><clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"id8fcc1298-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2/C/i\"><num value=\"i\">(i)</num><content> operates solely on hydrogen;</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"id8fcc1299-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2/C/ii\"><num value=\"ii\">(ii)</num><content> qualifies as a light-duty passenger vehicle; and</content>\n</clause>\n<clause style=\"-uslm-lc:I14\" class=\"indent3\" id=\"id8fcc129a-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\" identifier=\"/us/usc/t42/s16233/2/C/iii\"><num value=\"iii\">(iii)</num><content> uses hydrogen produced from water using only solar energy.</content>\n</clause>\n</subparagraph>\n</paragraph>\n<sourceCredit id=\"id8fcc129b-86fb-11e9-b915-8b3e54686b9f\">(<ref href=\"/us/pl/109/58/tIX/s933\">Pub.
