<section xmlns="http://xml.house.gov/schemas/uslm/1.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" style="-uslm-lc:I80" id="idad864ff9-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319"><num value="16319">§ 16319.</num><heading> Energy and water supplies</heading><subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idad864ffa-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/a"><num value="a" class="bold">(a)</num><heading class="bold"> In general</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary shall carry out a program of research, development, demonstration, and commercial application to—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idad864ffb-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/a/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> address energy-related issues associated with provision of adequate water supplies, optimal management, and efficient use of water;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idad864ffc-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/a/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> address water-related issues associated with the provision of adequate supplies, optimal management, and efficient use of energy; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idad864ffd-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/a/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> assess the effectiveness of existing programs within the Department and other Federal agencies to address these energy and water related issues.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idad864ffe-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/b"><num value="b" class="bold">(b)</num><heading class="bold"> Program elements</heading><chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The program under this section shall include—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idad864fff-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/b/1"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> arsenic treatment;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idad865000-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/b/2"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> desalination; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I12" class="indent1" id="idad865001-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/b/3"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> planning, analysis, and modeling of energy and water supply and demand.</content>
</paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idad865002-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/c"><num value="c" class="bold">(c)</num><heading class="bold"> Collaboration</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">In carrying out this section, the Secretary shall consult with the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Secretary of the Interior, the Chief Engineer of the Army Corps of Engineers, the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of Defense, and other Federal agencies as appropriate.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idad867713-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/d"><num value="d" class="bold">(d)</num><heading class="bold"> Facilities</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary may utilize all existing facilities within the Department and may design and construct additional facilities as needed to carry out the purposes of this program.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idad867714-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/e"><num value="e" class="bold">(e)</num><heading class="bold"> Advisory committee</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">The Secretary shall establish or utilize an advisory committee to provide independent advice and review of the program.</p>

<subsection style="-uslm-lc:I19" class="indent2 firstIndent-2" id="idad867715-09a0-11eb-a85b-f5cef3d06f4d" identifier="/us/usc/t42/s16319/f"><num value="f" class="bold">(f)</num><heading class="bold"> Reports</heading><content><p style="-uslm-lc:I11" class="indent0">Not later than 2 years after <date date="2005-08-08">August 8, 2005</date>, the Secretary shall submit to Congress a report on the assessment described in subsection (b) and recommendations for future actions.</p>
